Scott Franklin July 31, 2009 - Murder for Hire

Suspect's life of online porn, 'World of Warcraft' detailed

Divorce papers describe suspect

The 36-year-old Marysville man arrested Wednesday on suspicion of soliciting a hit man to commit murder had threatened to kill himself, his wife said in a divorce-related court filing.
"I believe that my spouse is a good man but due to his emotional state he is capable of hurting himself, our children and me," she stated in January of Jonathan Scott Franklin. "I do not believe he can safely be around our children without supervision."
The woman asserted that Franklin had also said he wanted to get his financial affairs in order and have the couple's two children adopted.
Franklin's wife in the court filing said he was laid off two years ago and since then "developed aberrant behavioral patterns."
He would spend hours watching pornography on his computer and often would spend up to 18 hours a day playing "World of Warcraft" on his computer, according to her court filing.
She said her job involves working with severely disturbed individuals and that she is familiar with warning signs involving such behavior.
Her statements were part of a request for a court order giving her custody of the couple's two children.
The couple separated in 2008, she said. In a July 20 court filing, her attorney cited matters including child custody and child support that remain at issue. Divorce proceedings continue in Yuba County Superior Court.
The woman is not being identified because of safety concerns.
Franklin, who is being held on $2 million bail, responded in a February court filing that he was probably misunderstood in the Jan. 16 conversation his wife had cited.
